Interesting Insights from the NZPIF 2014 membership Survey

Some very good information and demographics from this years NZPIF survey:

 

Some interesting Insights:

 

The average investor had owned rental property for 17.8 years

 

The average value of properties held was $2.2m and debt $1m

 

The average maintenance spend was 8.7% of rents. This would be approximatly $2000 per property in Christchuch based on the average rent of $440 presently.

 

66% of rentals were heated by heat pumps.

 

58% of members manage their own properties

 

42% of owners had taken a dispute to the tenancy tribunal within the last 5 years, 60% of these were due to rent arrears and 22% were regarding damage to the property.

 

62% of respondants were male and 38% female.  66% were aged over 50.
